Problems of graduates at interviews

„Entrance interviews where suitable candidates from wide range of high schools and universities graduates are being selected are specific in a way they accentuate the significance of applicant’s personal qualities and motivation,” indicates possible problems of graduates at interviews Daniela Netolicka, Senior Consultant of Synergie.

Graduates generally do not have the opportunity to demonstrate their qualities by listing their work achievements. Therefore, they have to focus even more on their self-presentation and motivation for a particular job position.

„Young people often confide in us that the basic and often times very difficult task after graduating is to understand the needs of the job market and to decide which career to pursue,” says Daniela Netolicka.

That is quite problematic for young people because the subject matter at schools is often very distant from the real professional life. It is common that young people do not familiarize themselves with specific job positions and relevant job specification. Therefore, it is necessary for them to comprehend the job market. Friends or people working in a particular field, online information and consultants from recruitment companies can be very helpful to them.

Graduate should have a clear vision of his/her professional future before coming for an interview to a possible employer. The interviewer should be convinced that the applicant has an exact idea about his professional life. It is essential that the candidate demonstrate his/her high motivation for a particular work position.

It is obvious that if a young person already gained experience in his/her field during the studies, he/she will benefit from it on the job market. “Such a candidate, despite his/her recent graduation, is not perceived as a typical graduate but as a professional whose salary needs to reflect his/her experience,” adds from her longtime experience at Synergie Daniela Netolicka.

However, even those graduates who did not obtain relevant work experience during their studies have a great chance to acquire an interesting job position in their field. It is helpful to mention every work experience, related or non-related in the Curriculum Vitae and during an interview.
A young person gains experience and learns work habits at any job position and that is being acknowledged by all possible employers.
